Deception - Risk VS Benefit [Part negative reciprocal of i^2]
All of us have lied at least once in our life. I highly doubt that people have never lied before. It's part of human nature yet it carries so many negative connotations in most contexts. The notion which i will hopefully try to delve into and not stray from is this: i have no fucking clue :D So off to my train of thought.Lying is used to gain many things at a risk of course. Sometimes the risk is negligible and others times it carries a monumental risk. You lie when you tell your friends a funny or cool story, lie to your parents about how you did in an assessment or test or just lying because you don't like that particular person. The uses for lying are endless, but the motives are not. "It was necessary" and "There was an awkward silence" are all valid reasons, but do the risks outweigh the benefits? That is the question you should ask yourself before you sprout a lie. There's no helping it though, we lie on instinct which requires no thought at all. However some lies aren't reliant on instinct. For example, shihai lied to me about scoring 20 kills in a game, yet when i asked him where he was up to in the game a month later, he told me he didn't even have that gaming console. And from then on, whatever he said about games and technology were just lies which he wanted me to devour. Owning 5 nintendo ds consoles tch, at least make it seem believable. I just lost faith in him and didnt trust what he said anymore. I discussed his lies with my other friends and sure enough we agreed and labelled him as a minor liar. All he could gain was a slightly stronger friendship and some admiration from me. And what did he risk? Trust and the fact that he will never impress me again. Messed up gamble eh? Then there was a case of a peer saying he bought a ddr machine. Yup, bullshit from the start and his reputation of trust is next to nothing. Absolute no truth in what he says. Always trying to impress with his ill thought out lies, it doesn't work that way. And again, a lot to lose compared with the little to gain. But the result from a lie can benefit as well. Homework letters. It's a simple concept. Parents know, they get upset, you get told off and your reputation tainted. Or you hide and dispose of the letter, everyones happy as theres no way for them to find out; being realistic as they wont call the school and ask about the letters sent home. This is obviously beneficial, but comes at a terrible consequence should they find out about it. First they wont trust you again, you'll get a more permanent taint and you'll feel like complete shit. Now guys, ive experienced all these outcomes so much, my parents just dont trust me anymore, and i deserve it. I should've done my homework, but it's a tad late for that isnt it? I gambled too much and look where it got me. So the moral of the story is to lie, but not get caught. Nah. You're on your own guys, your life, do whatever the hell you want with it. tagboard
